Finding A Coach
The Derrick Skating Club is fortunate to have experienced, dedicated and highly-qualified coaches on staff. Names and email addresses of our professional coaches can can be found on the Professional Coaching Staff link on the menu bar at right.
A successful coach/skater relationship is crucial to the development of a figure skater. It is important to find a coach you will work well with. You need to know yourself and your learning style and think about the type of personality in a coach that will most enhance your progress.
For parents of skaters who taken CanSkate lessons with our club, a good place to start is to talk to one of the coaches who coached your child or one who you observed during the lessons. Children often recommend their CanSkate coach too.
Parents should talk to prospective coaches about their expectations and coaching style. Coaching fees are another important consideration. Fees will be billed separately. It is important to come to an agreement as to how many lessons will be needed, the length of each lesson, and when the lesson will take place.
It is the responsibility of each skater to arrange for private coaching with one of our professional coaches.
