Figure Skating Programs
Training
- Skaters are expected to be on time for all on-ice and off-ice sessions. It is expected that they attend all sessions for which he/she has registered.
- Skaters should commit to a strong work ethic in order achieve their goals and reach their potential. Behavior that does not support this value will not be tolerated.
- Skaters must wear appropriate athletic or skating attire during all on-ice and off-ice sessions. Hair must be tied back and hoodies are not permitted.
- All skaters are to bring running shoes and jump ropes for off-ice warm-up and jump classes. A notebook may be required for the classroom sessions.
- New this season: Skaters are required to use the arena dressing rooms and NOT the bleachers/viewing area.
- Parents should not talk to skaters while they are on the ice.
- Parents are not permitted to watch the off-ice classes.
- Skaters must adhere to the rules in the club code of conduct.
Coaching
- Billing typically takes place biweekly or monthly.
- Payment is due within seven days of billing date. Failure to make payment will result in the cancellation of all lessons from Derrick Skating Coaches.
- Skaters with overdue accounts may not take tests or register for subsequent skating schools.
- A minimum of 24 hours notice must be given if you cannot attend a scheduled lesson. Missed lessons that have not been cancelled will be charged a cancellation fee.
- Do not interrupt any coaches while they are coaching.
- Skaters are billed for lessons, tests, simulations, competitions, music/editing, meetings and planning. Ask your coach about the billing structure.
- The skater’s primary coach is responsible for the various aspects of your child’s training program including scheduling, competitions, testing, music, costuming seasonal planning and goal setting. Be sure to direct questions regarding your child’s skating to your primary coach.
Volunteering
Families of private-lesson skaters are required to contribute to club operations throughout the skating year through one or more volunteer commitments. For the 2011/12 seasin, the commitment is as follows:
- Junior Development (One-Day, One-Day Plus) = 5 hours
- Junior Development (Two-Day Plus) = 7 hours
- Junior, Intermediate and Senior = 10 hours
In addition, families will be required to assist with the preparations for this year's Ice Show on Saturday, March 17, 2012.
